We send a hand-signed card to each prisoner we support in time for their birthday each year. For many prisoners this is the only card they receive.
Every year we receive multiple letters from British prisoners overseas to say how much it meant for them to feel remembered on their birthday. A prisoner in Japan told us: "I am so delighted and extremely grateful to have received a birthday card from you. It was my 84th birthday and even without a celebration it made me so happy that you remembered my birthday."
A prisoner in the USA wrote to Prisoners Abroad to say: "Please thank everyone in the office for the lovely birthday card you sent me. If it wasn't for you all I would surely be lost. It's very upsetting to stand at the mail call day after day and not get any mail. So when my name is called it's like receiving a million pounds."
